Daum Nancy Box, Jar, and Bottle Guide
These small objects usually get grouped together in the same family. They are still not as popular as vases or lamps, but they do have a close following by a few specialists out there.
Box – A box is usually going to be something that is wider than it is tall. It should be complete with a lid. These are often called powder boxes.
Jar – A jar is usually going to be taller than it is wide. It should be complete with a lid.
Bottle – A bottle is similar to a jar accept that it will have a much smaller opening and should be more squat. These are often further referred to as perfume bottles or scent bottles.
The picture below, from left to right, shows a box, bottle, and jar.
I selected these pictures because they are representative of most of what is out there. Of course the pattern and decorations can be very different. Boxes are generally the least valuable of the three objects. They have a very low profile and are difficult to display. Bottles probably have the most upside, but jars have the highest average value. Please keep in mind that collectors expect the lid/stopper to be present with each of these objects. There is not a premium for the pair, but there is a discount for just a bottom. Lids and stoppers have very little value on their own.
Got Questions?
It is impossible to say much about values just because they are all across the board. If you would like to know what your Daum Nancy piece is worth, then just email me some pictures of it. Info@DaumNancy.com
